Parenting: 14 Godly Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family
by Pastor Paul David Tripp
Parenting. It’s hard. You’re not alone. All of us need help, whether you're a first-time soon-to-be parent or this is your
fourth child. You probably have questions for different areas, like discipline or communication. I want to preface that it doesn’t answer every question. However, it does provide helpful principles for a parent to live by. Thus, this should be one of the books on parenting in your library or bookshelf at home. You’re probably looking for help to solve an
issue/problem at home. Pastor Paul David Tripp gives practical examples to work through the issue. For example, why are my kids arguing? Or why is my son acting out in anger? It may not be exactly the same thing that is happening in your home, but it helps you break down the situation to have a better understanding of what to do next as a parent. Yet, the author continues to over a point, it’s not the behavior (iceberg on top), it’s the sin problem (root issue). When we address the sin problem with Christ, only then can it be resolved. I appreciate how Pastor Paul Tripp takes these principles from Scripture. I appreciate him reminding parents that we have been given a mission in life, to be ambassadors for Christ at home, to create an environment (not force or guilt trip but by moment to moment actions
and conversations) for our child to accept Christ Jesus into their lives as Savior and Lord.
Salvation in our child(ren)’s greatest need. Lastly, I love how he addresses us, parents. Oftentimes, we need to be worked on by God. There are areas in our lives that need to be renewed, readjusted so that we can be examples of Christ to our child(ren). So be ready with your pen or highlighter. Take a lot of notes. I encourage you to do this with
people in your small group as well (a couple of our small groups have gone through this book). This way, you can process and have extra wisdom or examples to help you be a better parent/ambassador for Christ to your child.
