Our History

Our History

Chinese Baptist Church of Central Orange County (CBCCOC) is a family church with services and programs to meet the needs of Chinese Americans, from the young to elderly, Chinese speaking and English speaking. We have five worship services every Sunday: Cantonese with English translation, English, Mandarin, Youth (in English), and Children (in English). For all ages and in all three languages, we have Sunday School classes on Sundays and fellowship groups that meet on various days of the week. We also have a church choir, which practices on Sunday afternoons. In addition, we offer a Chinese Language Program on Sunday afternoons – this program is in session from September through June and includes Cantonese & Mandarin classes as well as an English-As-Second-Language class. We started as a mission church, sent by the Chinese Baptist Church of Orange County (CBCOC) in Anaheim, to reach more Cantonese-speaking Chinese in the southern parts of Orange County. CBCOC was led to this vision in January 1991, following its annual church planning conference. In April 1992, the Church on Red Hill, in Tustin, offered to host this mission church, and Rev. James Chiu, who founded CBCOC and was her senior pastor at that time, volunteered to pastor this mission church. In May 1992, in an open forum in CBCOC, a motion was made and, in July, CBCOC members approved that motion, to start the mission church in Tustin, at the site of the Church on Red Hill, with Pastor Chiu as the mission church pastor and 10 families from CBCOC. On January 3, 1993, at the Tustin site, Pastor Chiu led 120 people to worship the Lord for the first time as a mission church of CBCOC. In July 1993, the mission church became the Chinese Baptist Church of Central Orange County (CBCCOC), operationally independent of CBCOC, the Anaheim mother church.

Our Facility
God provided and allowed us to build for His glory. In May 2000, after renting the facility in Tustin for 7+ years, we moved into our own facility in Irvine. In January 2003, we completed the second phase of our facility to meet expected growth in the following few years. On July 2013 we completed the final phase of our church campus. The Sanctuary was finished and dedicated for God's glory.
